A Piece of History:

The Catalina Island Rentals

Car No. 8

This 1966 Mini Moke tells the story of its long life as a hire car on the famous Hollywood Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles. Originally exported as a new vehicle, it spent decades serving visitors before returning to the UK in a severely deteriorated state.

The restoration team approached this project with a commitment to preserving its unique history. A new shell was built, but wherever possible, original components were retained, including the bulkhead, seat crossmember, and much of the floor. New external panels and a front panel were carefully fitted to complete the bodywork.

To honour its legacy, the car was restored to its original hire car appearance, including a precise colour match, replicated decals on the bonnet, and trim faithfully recreated to match its original specifications as "Car No. 8."

Now fully restored to better-than-new condition, this Catalina Island icon has been revived to capture the charm and character of its storied Hollywood past.
